Richard Coddington came to Suffolk when Henry VIII swapped the Ixworth Manor for Coddington's land in Surrey, where Henry VIII built Nonesuch Palace. Coddington derived from Cuddington, which was a hamlet in Surrey that was merged into Epsom and Ewell (2 towns in Surrey). Now the tomb of Richard Coddington and his wife exists in the old Chancel. It is a decorated tomb, with a plaque, pictures and intricate carvings.
Mr and Mrs Coddington must have been very good people and must have helped the church a lot as the tomb would have cost a lot of money for the church and the villagers. |
