The Boldero family have had a very large impact on the village of Ixworth and on Saint Mary's Church. They appear on lots and lots of tiles, plaques, gravestones and even on the floor of Saint Mary's!
One man, John (Johannes) Boldero-who is on one large plaque in the church-was born in 1674. He went up to Christ's College Cambridge at the age of 17 and received two qualifications:Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts. After that he became Vicar of Fen Drayton in 1707. Later on he became Rector of Clipstone in Northants until his death in May 1751. His plaque is a memorial for him. Another relative-George Boldero-is also featured on a plaque. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts, but this time from Caius College in Cambridge. After he became Perpetual Curate of Ixworth and a JP (justice of the peace) for Suffolk. He died in Brussels in 1836. There are also lots of other family members from the Bolderos in the church-many forgotten but actually very important to the local history. I personally know a family who's last names are Boldero-they are almost certainly related to the local family. Also, there is now a road in Bury named after this family. |
